Mysuru February 26, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “Doctors and scientists became gods for the people during the COVID-19 Pandemic period, opined Padmashree awardee Prof. S. Ayyappan.
He participated in a national-level seminar on the topic, “Trends in Drug Discovery,” organised by the Department of Molecular Biology and Organic Chemistry, held at the Vignana Bhavana in Manasagangothri campus today.
In his lecture, he said, “Human being has never seen god in his life time. He doesn’t even know where he is. However, all of us offer prayers to god everyday. But the doctors became gods for the entire mankind during the pandemic. It was the scientists who invented the vaccine and protected human beings.”
“COVID made relationships stronger and meaningful. It also created awareness about health among us. A few words that we had never heard became a part of our lives. We also changed our food habits and started exercising. On a whole our lives has restarted with a new thought,” he added.
Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, in his address said, “the Chemistry, Biology and computer scientists are sriving to improve the living condition of patients who are suffering from various diseases. They are working day and night to discover medicine required and are struggling to defeat the diseases through technology.”
Former Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa inaugurated the seminar. Prof. Tejpal Singh, of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Tapas K. Kundu, of the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research were present.
