Mysuru, Feb. 27, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): “Can we grow mangoes by sowing neem?! The present condition of our country is also the same. Values of democracy are declining and we are facing the imposition of dictatorship,” opined former minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa.
He inaugurated the state-level seminar on the topic, “Face-to-face of Dalit Movement and Farmers Movement,” organized by the N.Rachaiah Student Centre of the Political Science Department, University of Mysore.
In his address, he said, “Political power is said to be the key to solve all the problems. But, nowadays only one particular religion and caste are emerging as more important. If we speak we will have to face punishment. Political leaders have become weapons.”
“Today politics is running based on religion and caste. Tipu Sultan provided land for those who didn’t have land, he stopped the Devadasi system. Today if we speak about him they will label us as anti-Hindu. They ask us not to conduct the Ahinda conference. They are implementing anti-people laws,” he criticized.
“N. Rachaiah was the voice of the poor and the downtrodden. He instilled courage and confidence among the voiceless people. He was the person who moved no-confidence against the Chief Minister. The officials who were appointed for the upliftment of untouchables gave birth to the left and right concepts. Today we have been made to stand in such a situation where are fighting among ourselves calling us leftists, rightists, dalits, etc. We are losing ourselves in this caste-system,” he said.
