Mysuru, July 31, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): Padmabhushan award winner Prof. G. Padmanabhan expressed his view that sustainable development and bio discoveries are the need of the hour in the present world.
He participated in the one-day national virtual seminar on the topic ‘Recent developments in Bio-technology,” organized by the Department of Bio-technology, University of Mysore.
In his address he said, “The need of science is required more today than ever before. Global warming is an issue of serious concern across the globe. New Delhi has turned to be the works pollution hit city in the country. In this context such seminars add lot of value and is most required,” he said.
Dr. S. Chandrashekar, Director, CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad spoke about ‘Science Story’. He observed that bio-technology is providing solutions to several problems that are evolved due to the modern living style. Bio-technology sector plays a vital role in providing safe food and conservation of water, he said.
On the occasion he also observed that the contribution of bio-technology is significant in invention of vaccine to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, former VC and Prof. S.R. Niranjan inaugurated the program. Prof. H.N. Aparna, Head, Department of Bio-technology, Prof. Umesh, Retd. Prof. Bharathi Salimath, Dr. Geetha and others participated.
