Bengaluru, Nov. 27, 2020 (www.justkannada.in): While preparations for the forthcoming Gram Panchayat elections are on in the state, people infected with COVID-19 virus have lost their chance to exercise their franchise by post, and instead, they have to come to the booth to vote.
The Election Commission has written a letter to the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka to make arrangements to allow the COVID-19 patients to go to the booth and vote.
It is learned that the EC has arrived at this decision after discussing it with the Deputy Commissioners on the possibilities of illegal voting if postal voting is allowed.
Accordingly, COVID patients will be allowed to exercise their franchise at the booth one hour before closing hours. Instructions have been given to bring the patients by taking all the precautionary measures.
