ಆಚಾರವಿಲ್ಲದ ನಿನ್ನ ನಾಲಿಗೆ….

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್,28,2021(www.justkannada.in): ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಗಳು ಮಾತಿನ ನೈತಿಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೌಖಿಕ ಅತಿಸಾರದಿಂದ ನರಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಾನಗಲ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಿಂಧಗಿ ವಿಧಾನಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳ ಉಪಚುನಾವಣೆ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ ೩೦ಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಗಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಚುನಾವಣಾ ಭಾಷಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವಿಧ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳ ನಾಯಕರುಗಳು ಒಬ್ಬರ ಮೇಲೊಬ್ಬರು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕೆಸರೆರಚಾಟ, ಭಾಷಣಗಳಿಂದ ಇದು ನಿಜವೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಭಾಷಣಗಳು ಕೊಳಕು ಮಾತುಗಳು, ಅವಮಾನಕರ ಭಾಷೆ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿವಾದಾತ್ಮಕ ತಂತ್ರಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿವೆ.

ಮೂರು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಗದ ನಾಯಕರು – ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್, ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಜೆಡಿ(ಎಸ್) ಒಬ್ಬರ ಮೇಲೊಬ್ಬರು ಆರೋಪಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗಳಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಅವಮಾನಿಸುವ ರಾಜಕಾರಣ ಹೊಸತೇನಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಅದು ಬಹಳ ಕೆಳಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿದಿರುವುದು ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ. ರಾಜಕೀಯವಾಗಿ ಹಾನಿಕಾರಕ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳು, ಹದ್ದು ಮೀರಿದ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವಮಾನಿಸುವಂತಹ ಮಾತುಗಳು ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿದೆ. ಈ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳು, ಬಲ ಅಥವಾ ಎಡ ಯಾವ ಪಂಥಗಳ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಹ ಬಿಂಬಿಸುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾವು ಇಂತಹ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಅಸಹ್ಯ ಪಟ್ಟು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸಬಹುದಷ್ಟೇ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖ ಪಡಬೇಕಾಗಿರುವ ಸಂಗತಿ ಏನೆಂದರೆ ಮತದಾರರಿಗೆ ಈ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳ ಪೈಕಿಯೇ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಪಕ್ಷವೊಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ ಹಾಕುವುದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬೇರೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿದಿರುವುದು.

ರಾಜಕೀಯ ನಾಯಕರೊಬ್ಬರು ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ವರದಿಗಳ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಯಾರನ್ನಾದರೂ ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ಟೀಕಿಸಬಹುದೇ? ಆಪಾಧಿಸಬಹುದೇ?

ಆದರೆ ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ  ನಳಿನ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಕಟೀಲ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಈ ರೀತಿ ಟೀಕಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅಂಜಿಕೆಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಇವರು ರಾಹುಲ್ ಗಾಂಧಿಯನ್ನು ಓರ್ವ ಮಾದಕ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಮಾರಾಟಗಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾದಕ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ವ್ಯಸನಿ ಎಂದು ಜರಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಟೀಕೆ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿರುವ ವರದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿರುವುದಾಗಿಯೂ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸುವಂತೆ ಬಿಜೆಪಿಯ ವಕ್ತಾರ ಕ್ಯಾಪ್ಟನ್ ಗಣೇಶ್ ಕಾರ್ಣಿಕ್ ಅವರು, ಕಟೀಲ್ ಅವರು, ೨೦೧೬ರಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸಭಾ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಡಾ. ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣಿಯನ್ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನೇ ಪುನರಾವರ್ತಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದರು. ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ಕಟೀಲ್ ಅವರು ಯಾವಾಗ ಡಾ. ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರ ವಕ್ತಾರರಾದರು? ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ನಾಯಕ ಬಿ.ಎಸ್. ಯಡಿಯೂರಪ್ಪ ಅವರು ಕಟೀಲ್ ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯಿಸಿ, ಯಾರೂ ಸಹ ಇಂತಹ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಬಳಸಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ತಮಗೆ ರಾಹುಲ್ ಗಾಂಧಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೂ ಗೌರವವಿದೆ ಎಂದರು. ಆದರೆ ಕಟೀಲ್ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಬೀತು ಪಡಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುವ ಗೋಜಿಗೇ ಹೋಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಎದುರಾಳಿಗಳ ಕೌಟುಂಬಿಕ ಜೀವನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಲು  ಹಿಂಜರಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದರ ಹಿಂದಿರುವುದು ಸಭ್ಯತೆಯಲ್ಲ, ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾತುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ವಿರುದ್ಧವೇ ತಿರುಗಬಹುದೆಂದು ಅಂಜುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಬಿಜೆಪಿ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜಾಲತಾಣಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಜೆಡಿಎಸ್ ನಾಯಕ ಹೆಚ್.ಡಿ. ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಲೇವಡಿ ಮಾಡಿತು.  ಅವರನ್ನು ‘ದ್ವಿಪತ್ನಿತ್ವ, ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಘಾತುಕ, ಭ್ರಷ್ಟ, ಸ್ವಜನಪಕ್ಷಪಾತಿ, ಸಿಗ್ನಲ್‌ ಗಳನ್ನು ಎಗರುವವರು, ಹೀಗೆ ನಾನಾ ಮಾತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂದಿಸಿತು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯಿಸಿದ ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಮಾಡಿರುವಂತಹ ತಪ್ಪನ್ನು ವಿಧಾಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನ ಒಂದು ತೆರೆದ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ರೀತಿ ಎಂದರು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ತಪ್ಪನ್ನು ಯಾವುದೇ ಅಂಜಿಕೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೆದುರು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡಿರಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂಬಾಲಕರಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ? ಸೆಲಿಬ್ರಿಟಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿರುವಂತಹ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಜೀವನದ ನಡುವೆ ಬಹಳ ಸಣ್ಣ ಅಂತರವಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಈ ನಾಯಕರು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.

ಆದರೆ ಬಿಜೆಪಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಈ ನಾಯಕತನ ದ್ವಿಪತ್ನಿತ್ವದ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಲು ಕಾರಣವೇನು? ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು ಉಪಚುನಾವಣಾ ಪ್ರಚಾರದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಜೆಪಿಯವರನ್ನು ಟೀಕಿಸಲು ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ಟಾರ್ಗೆಟ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮೊದಲು, ಈಗ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್ ಸರ್ಕಾರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಇನ್ನೇನೂ ಅಲ್ಲ ಎಂದರು. ಅಧಿಕಾರಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೀ ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರೇ ತುಂಬಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದರು. ಆಡಳಿತವನ್ನು ಕೇಸರೀಕರಣಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಬಿಜೆಪಿ  ಆರ್ ಎಸ್ ಎಸ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರಿಗೆ ಯುಪಿಎಸ್‌ ಸಿ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಲು ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಆರೋಪಿಸಿದರು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯಿಸಿದ ಕಟೀಲ್ ಅವರು ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರನ್ನು ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಏನು, ಅದು ಏನು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್ ಶಾಖೆಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಜೆಡಿಎಸ್ ನಾಯಕ, “ನಾವೀಗಾಗಲೇ ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್ ಶಾಖೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನೋಡಿಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅವರು (ಬಿಜೆಪಿ) ವಿಧಾನಸಭಾ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ನೀಲಿ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಶಾಖೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನೇ ಏನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು? ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ನಿಂದ ಕಲಿಯುವ ಬದಲಿಗೆ ನಾನು ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಬಡವರಿಂದ ಪಾಠ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತೇನೆ,” ಎಂದರು. ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ರೊಚ್ಚಿಗೆದ್ದ  ಬಿಜೆಪಿ, ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರ ದ್ವಿಪತ್ನಿತ್ವದ ಕುರಿತು ಹೇಳೀಕೆ ನೀಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ದಾಳಿ ಮಾಡಿತು.

ಇದಾದ ನಂತರ ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದರು. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು, “ಕಟೀಲ್ ಅವರೂ ಒಳಗೊಂಡಂತೆ ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ನಾಯಕರ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಜೀವನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಾನೂ ಸಹ ಮಾತನಾಡಬಹುದು,” ಎಂದು ಬೆದರಿಸಿದರು. ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಅಸಹ್ಯಕರವಾದ ಮಾತಿನ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಮಂತ್ರಿ ನರೇಂದ್ರ ಮೋದಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸದೆ ಇರಲಾಗುತ್ತದೇಯೇ..? ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್  ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಶಾಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿತ್ತು. ವಯಸ್ಕರಿಗೆ ಕಲಿಸಲು ಅನುಕೂಲ ಒದಗಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಅದರ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವನ್ನು ಮೋದಿ  ಪಡೆಯಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸಮಿತಿ ಟ್ವೀಟ್ ಮಾಡಿತು. ಮುಂದುವರೆದು, ‘ಭಿಕ್ಷುಕರು ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಭಿಕ್ಷೆ ಎತ್ತುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ…. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶ “# angoothachhaap modi” (ಹೆಬ್ಬೆಟ್ಟು ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಮೋದಿ) ನಿಂದಾಗಿ ಕಷ್ಟ ಅನುಭವಿಸುವಂತಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಲೇವಡಿ ಮಾಡಿತು. ನೆಟ್ಟಿಗರಿಂದ ಬಂದ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮಟ್ಟದ ವಿರೋಧದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಕೆಪಿಸಿಸಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಡಿ.ಕೆ. ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು, ‘ಅನಾಗರಿಕ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಳವಿಲ್ಲ,’ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಡಿಲೀಟ್ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಆದರೆ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರ  ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾರದೆ ಅವರ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ತಾಲತಾಣದ ತಂಡ ಹೇಗೆ ಇಂತಹ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪೋಸ್ಟ್ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ?

ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ನಾಯಕ ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯ ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳ ಗಮನವನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯ ಅವರು ಬಿಜೆಪಿಯನ್ನು ತಾಲಿಬಾನಿ  ಎಂದರು. ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಆರ್‌ ಎಸ್‌ ಎಸ್ ಎರಡೂ ಸಹ ಜರ್ಮನಿಯ ಸರ್ವಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಹಿಟ್ಲರ್ ವಂಶಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದವರು ಎಂದು ಜರಿದರು. ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯರನ್ನು ‘ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಟರ್ಮಿನೇಟರ್’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದರು.

ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಉಪಚುನಾವಣಾ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಕಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿರುವ ನಾಯಕರುಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗಂಟೆಯ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ದೊಡ್ಡ ‘ಆಣಿ ಮುತ್ತುಗಳ’ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯೇ ಹುಟ್ಟಬಹುದು. ತಮ್ಮ ಎದುರಾಳಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಪ್ಪನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳೂ ಅವರಿಗದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಆರೋಪ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಾರೋಪಗಳು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಅನಾಗರಿಕವಾಗಿ, ಅವಮಾನಕರ ಅಥವಾ ಕ್ರೂರವಾಗಿರಬಾರದು. ಅವರು ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಆದರೆ ಆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಲೆಕೆಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.

ರಾಜಕೀಯ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣೆಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಮೂಲಭೂತ ವಾಸ್ತವಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುವಂತಿರಬೇಕು. ಆದರೆ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಗಳ ಭಾಷಣಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಪೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಗಮನಿಸಿದರೆ ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಕೊಳೆತು ನಾರುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಆಡಳಿತ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಸುಧಾರಿಸುವಂತಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹೀಗೇಕಿದೆ?  ಆರೋಪ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಾರೋಪಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸ್ತವಗಳು, ಔಚಿತ್ಯತೆ, ನಿಖರತೆ, ಪೂರಕತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಭ್ಯತೆಗಳೇಕೆ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ? ವಿರೋಧಪಕ್ಷದವರನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿ, ಕನಿಷ್ಠ ಆಡಳಿತ ಪಕ್ಷ ಹಾಗೂ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತ ಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವವರು ಮತದಾರರ ಮುಂದೆ ವಿಧಾನಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಾವು ಸಾಧಿಸಿರುವ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯ ವರದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಪಡಿಸಬಹುತ್ತಿದ್ದಲ್ಲವೇ..?

ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಅಭಿರುಚಿ ಇಲ್ಲದಿರುವಂತಹ ನಾಯಕರಿಂದ ಅಂತಹ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಚರ್ಚೆಯನ್ನು ಬಹುಶಃ ನಾವು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲೂ ಬಾರದು. ಉತ್ತಮ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಓದುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನೆರವಾಗಬಹುದು. ಬಹುಶಃ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಆಹ್ಲಾದವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವಂತಹ ಸಂಗೀತವನ್ನು ಆಲಿಸುವುದು ಹಾಗೂ ಜೀವನೋತ್ಸಾಹವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವಂತಹ ಭಾಷಣಗಳು ಇವರನ್ನು ಉತ್ತಮ ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನಾಗಿಸಬಹುದು. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಇದ್ಯಾವುದು ಬೇಡ.

ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಉಪಚುನಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಂತಹ ಎರಡೂ ವಿಧಾನಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಕಠಿಣವಾದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ ಇರುವ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಈ ನಾಯಕರು ಈ ರೀತಿ ಅಸಹ್ಯಕರವಾದ ಆರೋಪ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಾರೋಪಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.  ಹಾನಗಲ್ ವಿಧಾನಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆಲ್ಲುವುದು ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಬಸವರಾಜ್ ಬೊಮ್ಮಾಯಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆಯ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ಅವರ ಮಾತೃ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ. ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸಹ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿಯೇ ಕುಸ್ತಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಜೆಡಿಎಸ್ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯದವರ ಚಾಂಪಿಯನ್ ಆಗುವ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಚುನಾವಣಾ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶಗಳು ಈ ನಾಯಕರುಗಳ ಅಹಂ ಅನ್ನು ತೃಪ್ತಿಪಡಿಸಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಖಂಡಿತ ಜನರ ಜೀವನದ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಸುಧಾರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಯಕರು ಹತ್ತಿರದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯುಳ್ಳವರು. ಅವರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಏನನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ?

Civility under siege in Karnataka politics

Karnataka politicians are suffering from verbal diarrhea. This is what can be inferred from the election campaign speeches heard in the Hangal and Sindagi assembly constituencies up for bye-election on October 30. Political speeches have become characterised by incendiary language, insulting rhetoric, and polemic techniques.
A section of the top leaders of all three political parties—Congress, BJP, and JD (S)—are competing among themselves to spew venom against their rivals. Insult politics is nothing new to Karnataka. However, this time it goes one notch lower. Politically harmful comments, norm breaker comments, and insulting comments all fall into this category. They reflect neither right-wing nor left-wing populism. We can only abhor them. Sadly, voters have very limited options except to vote for one of these parties.
Can a leader seriously accuse someone based on media reports? Nalin Kumar Kateel has no hesitation in doing so. Rahul Gandhi was described by him as a drug peddler and an addict. He said he was saying this based on media reports. Coming to his aid, BJP spokesman Capt Ganesh Karnik said that Kateel had replicated what Dr Subramanian Swamy, a member of the Rajya Sabha, said in 2016. When did Kateel become the spokesperson for Dr Swamy? BJP leader B S Yediyurappa responded to Kateel by saying that no one should speak that language. He said he respects Rahul as well. But so far Kateel has not bothered to justify his comments with facts.
In general, the politicians in Karnataka are shy to talk about their rivals’ family life. It’s not an issue of decency, but they don’t want to be at the receiving end. BJP mocked the leader H D Kumaraswamy, through social media platforms, for his “bigamy, trust violations, corruption, nepotism, jumping signals and much more.” Kumaraswamy was, of course, fast enough to say that he had confessed on the floor of the Assembly the mistake he made in his life. His life was also an open book, he said. He might have been forthright in confessing his deeds. But what message does he send to his followers? There is a thin gap between the private and public life of celebrities and public figures.
But what made the BJP speak about this leader’s bigamy? Kumaraswamy chose the RSS as his black beast during the poll campaign. First, he said the present administration is nothing more than RSS government. Bureaucracy is getting filled with RSS workers. The BJP, to saffronize administration, is training Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh workers to write the UPSC examinations, he charged. In response, Kateel asked him to visit an RSS shakha to get a sense of what it is doing. Hitting back, the JD (S) leader said, “Haven’t we already seen what is taught in these RSS shakhas? They (BJP) saw blue films during the Assembly. That’s what the Shakhas taught you? I would rather learn from the poor rather than the RSS.” At this point, the BJP indulged in a frontal attack by talking about his bigamy.
After the backlash, Kumaraswamy said his statement was misinterpreted. However, he too can speak about the personal lives of BJP leaders, including the life of Kateel, he threatened. In any ugly war of words between politicians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to figure. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee tweeted saying Modi didn’t study despite Congress building schools and facilitating adults to learn. Beggars have pushed the country to beggary… The country is suffering because of “# angoothachhaap modi” being ridiculed in Kannada. Following the netizens’ outrage, the KPCC President D K Shivakumar deleted it, saying there was no room for uncivilised comments. But how come such content was posted by his team without drawing his attention?
Congress leader Siddaramaiah’s barbs usually get media attention. He dubbed the BJP Talibani. Both the BJP and RSS belong to the genealogy of the German dictator, Hitler, he said. Kumaraswamy called Siddaramaiah a ‘Muslim terminator’.
There can be a long list of ‘pearls of wisdom’ on an hourly basis from these and more leaders who are campaigning. They have every right to find fault with their rivals. But they should not sound illogical, crude, and uncivilized. They are facing the bad press. But they are unmindful.
Political narratives must reflect the fundamental realities that matter most to the public. A cursory glance at their speeches and social media posts shows that there is no take away from them to improve the rotting public administration system. Why is that so? Why are facts, fairness, accuracy, relevance, and even decency missing in their outpouring? Forget the Opposition leaders, at least people who hold positions in the ruling party and government can place progress reports of the constituencies before voters?
It is perhaps too much to expect the leaders who have no finer taste in their lives to make such a political debate. Reading good books helps in understanding democracy better. Listening to soulful music and life-inspiring speeches can make them better humans.
Insult politics continues because there is tough fight in both constituencies. Retaining the Hangal seat in his home district of Haveri is a source of pride for Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. The Congress is wrestling well. The JD (S) is busy donning the role of champion of the Muslim community. The results can satisfy leaders’ egos but can hardly improve electoral quality of life. Because our leaders are myopic. What can we expect from them?
