Mysuru, October 22, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha has written a letter to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to reduce the amount of fine levied upon the farmers who grow tobacco crops.
In the letter, it is mentioned that “Tobacco is one of the major crops grown in Mysuru region. Many farmers depend upon tobacco crops for their livelihood. They are growing the crop amidst several difficulties, including weather conditions and labor problems. Presently the additional tobacco crop grown by the licensed growers of the Tobacco Board and illegal tobacco growers has imposed a 10% fine and Rs.2 fee for every kilo of the crop grown. Hence, the tobacco growers are in deep trouble. I request you to kindly reduce the fine amount from 10% to 5% and the fee from Rs. 2 to Re. 1.”
