Mysuru, July 8, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): A documentary film titled “The Goldenbug: Fruitful Saga of the Fruitfly, produced by M.V. Venkataraghava, an youth from Mysuru, has been selected for the National-level Science Film Festival.
The documentary will be screened at the 11th National Science Film Festival of India, held at Madhya Pradesh, organized by the Vignana Prasar, under the Union Science Secretariat.
The film has been produced under the guidance of Junior Research Officer of the University of Mysore Aaron Menezes and Genetics and Genomics Department Prof. N.B. Ramachandra (Retd.). While the script is prepared by Researcher Dr. C.R. Koushik Ponnanna, Researcher of Genetics and Genomics Department, the graphics is done by Shivamurthy Namchand.
It is a documentary film on a tiny insect named ‘Drosophila,’ and based on science subjects. Scientific experiments made on Drosophila has earned six nobel prizes till now. It is said that, there is 60% similarities between the human body and drosophila body. The documentary is made with an objective of creating awareness among the common people about the research works that are being carried out on this insect that appears like a fly, according to Director M.V. Venkataraghava.
“Our efforts and creativity has earned recognition. We are happy that our documentary has been selected for the nation-level film festival for the first time. It encourages us to make more such documentaries,” he said.
