Mysuru, July 27, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “The National Education Policy – 2020 plays a vital role in transforming the education system of India,” observed Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi.
He participated in the University of Mysore Foundation Day held at the Crawford Hall in Mysuru today. He offered floral tributes to the founder Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and addressed the gathering. “The University of Mysore was established during British rule and hence has a long history. The University of Mysore is a contribution of the Mysuru King. Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar established the University in the presence of colonialism. As a result, it has helped lakhs of students of the State and has continued to do so,” he said.
“The NEP 2020 is a very important thing in the education system of our country. It plays a vital role in building confidence and skills among the children. It also gives importance to the overall development of the children. It helps in providing a strong platform for building a self-dependent India by transforming the entire education system. Along with Sanskrit prominence is given to other vernacular languages,” he explained.
In his address, Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore said that it is a day of celebration for all of us. “Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar established the University of Mysore about 106 years ago. The Maharaja strove for the overall development of the State and established this University, he was a visionary. Mahatma Gandhiji called Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar a ‘Rajarishi’. Every step he took became a significant milestone in the progress of our state. His contributions to education, sports, culture, agriculture, industries, etc., is immense,” he observed.
Scion of the Mysuru Wadiyar family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, in his address, said that Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s grandfather Mummudi Krishnaraja Wadiyar had started the Rajashri School. Children hailing from financially weaker sections were allowed to study there. It came to the limelight during the 10th Chamaraja Wadiyar’s time. The people of Mysuru were depending on Madras University for higher education. Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar established the University of Mysore to help the students seeking higher education,” he observed.
