“Produce people with knowledge, not employees: Dr. R. Balasubramaniam

Mysuru, September 05, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): “All the Universities are producing just employees. But, what is required for our country is producing people wih knowledge,” opined Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Member, Union Human Resources, Building Capacity Mission.
He participated in a program held as part of the ‘Teachers Day,’ organized by the University of Mysore, at the Manasagangotri auditorium and spoke on the topic, “The World after COVID-19 Pandemic and Teachers in Higher Education.”
“Lot of research and studies will take place in the future. COVID has taught us that we human beings are nothing. We had an ego that nobody can win us as we know science. But an invisible virus has proved us wrong. We should create a new India by adopting the new National Education Policy.
“The Colleges should produce youngsters with knowledge that is useful for a new India. Therefore there is no need to discuss about the past. We should discuss about the future dreams. We have to produce people who win ‘Bharat Ratna’ awards. Multinational companies like Amazon and Google have announced that they don’t require degree holders, they require people with skills. Hence, everyone should understand the significance of skill. Change has started happening among the students, it should also happen among the teachers. We don’t require teachers, we require ‘Gurus.’ There is a lot of difference between both these words,” he explained.
“Not only teaching methods, everything should change in teaching, not just a new building, projectors and other equipment. Both a teaching and learning minds should be open to learn. According to a survey during this COVID period, in India the number of youngsters between the age group of 14 and 25 years who watched porn movies is the highest. I won’t say it is wrong to watch porn movies. But it is quite alarming to know for what our children are using precious time when there is no school-college. Everything cannot be learnt online. If 10% can be learnt online, 90% could be learnt only by teachers in colleges,” he added.
Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar (Exams), Prof. A.P. Jnanaprakash and others were present.
