Several institutions had come forward to confer honorary Doctorate on the late actor Powerstar Puneeth Rajkumar. But he had hesitated to receive it. They had tried to convince him, mentioning about his father the late Dr. Rajkumar. However, Puneeth had humbly rejected their proposal.
The University of Mysore has announced to confer the Honorary Doctorate (D.Litt.) on the late actor Puneeth Rajkumar posthumously this year. Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, personally visited the late actor’s residence at Sadashivanagar, in Bengaluru on March 12 and met the actor’s wife Mrs. Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, and invited her to the convocation.
Apart from being a good and decent actor, the late actor Puneeth Rajkumar, son of thespian Dr. Rajkumar has won the hearts of crores of Kannadigas through his acting skills, and his social works, more than his profession. His achievements have earned him the love of the people of Karnataka. The University of Mysore is conferring the doctorate considering all these factors.
The late actor’s wife Ashwini was met at her residence on Saturday. Conferring of doctorate on Puneeth was done several times earlier. However, it is learned that he had rejected the proposal humbly. When he was tried to convince stating his father, he used to say his father had higher respect among the people than him. “I have still not grown to that level, he used to say and reject the proposal humbly,” Ashwini said with tears in her eyes.
