Should be careful about children: UoM Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa

Mysuru, August 17, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “Children are the citizens of our great country. Along with being careful about our children, the society should also educate them,” observed Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar, University of Mysore.
He participated in the two-day workshop on the topic, “Sensitivity among Journalists about the problems of children post COVID pandemic,” organized by the Journalism and Communication Department, in association with the Unisys of Hyderabad, held at the Vignana Bhavana in Manasa Gangotri campus.
In his address, he said, “Values are very important to earn a name in society. But today we are all losing it. Journalism is one of the eyes of our society. Hence, along with the government, the media should also strive to educate the children about values. Children should not be neglected. Even today we all are facing what type of education should we provide them. Discussions about this are essential. Many people have gained more knowledge by reading newspapers than books. Journalists are also a part of building society. They are striving to bring overall change and build a healthy society.”
In his address, Prof. Prosun Sen from Hyderabad observed that it is an innovative program. “Many children also lost their lives during the COVID pandemic. It also affected the intellectual and mental health of children. Many children didn’t get nutrition as the schools were closed. Children were given food and eggs at school. However, due to the absence of schools, many children developed a habit of mobile phones. Many instances of harassment of children were reported apart from incidents of child marriages during that period. The number of child laborers also increased. Hence, discussions on child health, protection, and facilities they need should be held more often,” he added.
