Bengaluru, January 22, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): The State Government has dropped the orders of compulsory Kannada in post-graduation courses.
Earlier, the government had issued orders mandating learning of Kannada in Colleges. The Samskruta Bharathi Karnataka Trust had submitted a PIL in the High Court questioning the government order, requesting not to make Kannada compulsory for everyone. “Students who have already learned Kannada can learn it. But it should not be made compulsory for those who won’t like to learn Kannada,” it claimed. It had ordered the State Government not to enforce Kannada compulsorily until further orders.
Following this, Mahesh R., Under Secretary to the Government (Higher Education Department), has issued orders dropping the earlier order making Kannada compulsory in postgraduate courses in the implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020.
