Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, hoisted the tricolour in front ofn the Crawford Hall, on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day today. Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar (Exams), Prof. A.P. Jnanaprakash and teaching and non-teaching staff participated.

UoM VC reminisces sacrifices of freedom fighters on 75th I-Day celebrations
“Independence Day is observed to recall and offer our gratitude to all those great leaders who laid down their lives for our independence,” opined Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.
He hoisted the national flag in front of the Crawford Hall today to observe the 75th Independence Day. In his address, he said, “the Indian Independence Day is very significant, as it remembers us all the sacrifices of thousands of freedom fighters who laid down the lives for the country and independence from Britishers. The Indian Independence Bill was announced on July 4, 1947, the British House of Commons, and it was approved within 15 days. The British rule came to an end on August 15, 1947, bringing us freedom,” he explained.
On the occasion, he recalled the achievements of the sports achievers in the Olympics and urged the youth to excel in sports and bring laurels to the country. He explained that the University of Mysore always encourages excellent sports talent and provides all the required support for achievers.
“As per the instructions of the Prime Minister the 75th Independence Day which is being celebrated as ‘Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav’ (Platinum Jubilee) will be observed the whole year.”
On the occasion, he observed that the New Education Policy introduced by the Govt. of India would enable everyone to get quality education and helps build a knowledgeable society.
