Mysuru, November 14, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “It is not very easy to get the post of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore. But I got it easily. It is because of my hard work, with the wishes and support of my well-wishers and colleagues. I am contended with my four years of service,” observed Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, as he grew emotional at the thanks giving ceremony, organized at the Crawford Hall today.
“I started my career as a high school teacher at the JSS Educational Institutions. I studied in the University of Mysore and became a lecturer. Later, I became the dean and also the Vice-Chancellor now. I am happy with my service. I thank all those who supported me and worked with me for the development of the University,” he said.
“I am a student of the first batch of the University of Mysore Computer Science batch. I am also the first student for getting a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Many of my seniors like Prof. C. Nagabhushan, Prof. Shashidhar Prasad, Prof. S.N. Hegde, Prof. K.S. Rangappa, Prof. Talawar and others have inspired me. There are 1750 pensioners in our University and 40 colleges. It was a challenge to look after all this. I tried my best to give promotions to the teachers and also recruit guest lecturers. I could give my best because of the support and cooperation extended by several leaders including the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, present Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Higher Education Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwathanarayan. Many people with postgraduation used to approach me seeking ‘D’ group jobs. Hence, I started a project named ‘Come R Up’. Prime Minister has given Rs. 7 crore financial assistance. It helped many of them to get jobs along with training. I extend my gratitude to all of them,” he said.
“I tried for the development of the University even during the pandemic time and ensured that everyone get salaries properly. I also can not forget the support I received from the Finance Officer and syndicate members. I got the cooperation of all,” he added.
In his address, Suttur math Sri Shivarthri Deshikendra Swamiji said there is a close relationship between Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar and the JSS Mahavidyapeetha. “There were 14 districts under the University earlier. However, it is limited to just 4 districts now. Instead of saying that a University is small or big, quality becomes more important. Prof. Hemanth Kumar is a powerhouse of knowledge,” he observed.
Kannada Development Authority Chairman T.S. Nagabharana, former VC Prof. K.S. Rangappa, Prof. S.N. Hegde, Prof. N.S. Ramegowda, Prof. R. Niranjan, Special Officer Dr. Chetan and others were present.
