Mysuru, February 17, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “Every child requires certain sports activities that play a vital role in improving the personality of children,” opined Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.
He flagged off the first-ever National-level Bicycle Polo Competition, held at the Village Hostel grounds, in the University of Mysore campus today. “During earlier times, kings used to play polo by sitting on elephants. Later horses were used to play it. Today it has come to bicycles. The first-ever national-level bicycle polo in the State is being organized in Mysuru. Hence, it is a historic day for us. I wish this sport becomes more popular in the coming days. We will include the bicycle polo sports in the UoM sports events,” he added.
More than 20 teams, including from various states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Jammu, and Kashmir are taking part in the competition.
Bicycle polo national champion Vaishnavi R.S., Bicycle Polo Federation of India lifetime member Raghavendra Singh Dhundlod, Bicycle Polo Federation of India President Pradeep P Bapat, Secretary Dinesh Survey, Treasurer P.M. Aboobkar, Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Burade, Joint Secretary Sunayana Mishra, University of Mysore Registrar P. Rajanna, MLC Go. Madhusdan, Karnataka Bicycle Polo Association Chairman N.R. Manjunath, Secretary Dr. Vijayalakshmi A. Patil, Arun Kumar H. Patil and others were present.
